Join Lisa Neel, @lisacneel, for an introduction to making the most out of a fitting with untrained help: your roommate, family member, spouse, or close friend (the Intern). This session is a general introduction into some ways you (the model) and your intern can avoid common frustrations.
Lisa will share her favorite notions, room setup, lighting, and resources to help you get the fitting help you need from your intern with your relationship intact. While students are encouraged to bring any of their fitting help questions, Lisa will cover:
- “Pinning” without tears (alternatives to traditional pins and pinning techniques)
- Getting dressed (lacing closures, zippers, and buttons)
- Transferring marks back to your pattern/ resources for flat pattern manipulation
- Mirrors, cameras, and lighting
Students are encouraged to include their “Voluntold Intern” in the session and present specific fitting challenges. For more in depth help, Lisa is available for one-on-one coaching (see https://twinsnneedles.com/private-zoom-classes/) for more details. Students who sign up for the intro class will receive a discount code for $5 off a private session.
About Lisa: In 2015, Lisa cleaned and oiled her family’s Singer 403A to begin sewing again after a 24-year break following a disastrous home economics project involving tropical print cotton-poly fabric. Growing from her original goal to have “a few simple dresses for work,” she now has a 3-year “to sew” list ranging from the 1570’s to the present, enjoys producing clothes for her daughter from concept drawings, and has amassed an irresponsible number of sewing books and notions. Lisa’s teaching focus is on historical (or history bounding) garment construction, hand sewing, and basic pattern drafting.
