Done! I love it! This fabric has a lot of body, so Done! I love it! This fabric has a lot of body, so the cowl neck has a lot of oomph - actually very close to the pattern illustrations! If you’re unsure if you want your neckline to replicate this exact style and your fabric isn’t floppy, you might want to mock up four layers of your fabric together and see if they stand up on their own. You could always cut the cowl shorter, but since it’s made with darts and is cut in one piece, it’s probably best to make that change before cutting your fabric. I, personally, love a style that’s directly from when Jimmy Carter was in office! (Ok, I did change the sleeves and made it with a serger, so it’s not 1977 all of the way through.) #sewing #sew
I do really like my Stretch and Sew 305 top, but I I do really like my Stretch and Sew 305 top, but I wanted to try it with a more sleek sleeve shape. Enter Stretch and Sew 300! One of the great features of these patterns is that it’s often very easy to swap details like sleeves and necklines. Just look for a pattern with the same type of sleeve (set in, not raglan, for example), check that the seam lengths/allowances are the same, and you’re off to the races! This still needs hemming, but I’m pretty excited about it! #sewing #sew
I bought this Singer Stylist 513 at Goodwill, most I bought this Singer Stylist 513 at Goodwill, mostly for the cabinet, but it’s a nice little #sewing machine. It’s not technically vintage, since it’s only 42 years old (I heard once that a machine has to be 50 to be called vintage). Its nylon gears make it a little less durable, but they’re in great shape and it was clearly kept clean and in good condition by its previous owner. It’s missing a screw in the power cord area, which makes it difficult to plug or unplug, power-wise, but that doesn’t bother me. Lovely features: needle plate marked on both the right and the left, a free arm, Twin-needle compatible, and six built-in stitches. The giant cabinet was called the Monaco and man, it is heavy!
Not perfect, but it will do as a test! Great butto Not perfect, but it will do as a test! Great buttonholes made with my vintage Singer #sewing machine!
Nothing like an excuse to buy a bunch of elastic! Nothing like an excuse to buy a bunch of elastic! I’m leading a play and practice next month on Zoom. I’ll talk about a bunch of different ways to use elastic in your #sewing, and demonstrate some techniques to make it easy to master! Sign up to join us at twinsnneedles.com!
It doesn’t feel right to talk about #sewing when It doesn’t feel right to talk about #sewing when (waves arms) all of this is going on. But, I’m finding a little comfort in hiding in my basement with my machines, so maybe you need that kind of break, too. I did want to share a process I try to do every January: season my cast iron pans and oil/clean/sew at least a small project on each of my sewing machines. This is the 328k that was my very first machine. It runs like a champ even though it’s not in the general rotation. I’m taking it through its annual paces and I’m going to try out the buttonholer I have for it. I’m thinking I’ll leave the buttonholer plate in place full-time and basically make this my buttonhole machine.
This was a fun project! I wrote these #nonfiction This was a fun project! I wrote these #nonfiction books last year and they just came out from @lernerbooks. I used a pen name, since I didn’t want my google/amazon results to get weird about mixing up craft/knitting/politics with nonfiction for kids in grades 1 through 3. I learned so much and they were really fun to write.
I received this really fun fabric as part of a swa I received this really fun fabric as part of a swap. My mom always had a print of Monet’s The Poppies in her home and Dee and I were lucky enough to see it in person in Paris last time we went. My cutting could have been more fussy, but I’m happy with it, overall. 2021: still #sewing masks!
Excited to see people signing up for our filled pi Excited to see people signing up for our filled piping class at the end of January! Full details at twinsnneedles.com under Upcoming Events. This is the kind of #sewing that really ups the game for your work, but is surprisingly simple when taught by @kennethdking. He’s done all the hard work of figuring it out, so you can just follow along!

Wraps/shawls, especially big ones, take a lot of # Wraps/shawls, especially big ones, take a lot of #knitting but are great projects. I love wearing them because they’re versatile, but they also don’t get “worn out,” really, so your investment in time and yarn pays dividends for a long time. I made this Bold and Blended Striped wrap almost exactly 9 years ago and it still looks, basically, new!

I love the little details in stretch and #sew patt I love the little details in stretch and #sew patterns! This cowl neck (really more of a relaxed turtleneck) uses darts to allow more volume while matching the neckline seam length. In theory, you could extend this concept and turn this into a fun, floppy collar. #sewing #stretchandsew
Quick #sewing tip: don’t let your knit fabric ha Quick #sewing tip: don’t let your knit fabric hang off your cutting table. It could stretch out of shape! If your table isn’t big enough to hold your whole piece, fold, flip, or flop your extra fabric to keep it all on the table.
Getting ready to try view B of this #stretchandsew Getting ready to try view B of this #stretchandsew pattern. Strange to say, but “will this look good on Zoom” is now a question I ask myself before #sewing anything!
