Sewing machine in working order. You will need to do a straight stitch. A machine that can also do a zig-zag stitch is nice to have but not required. Please contact us by March 1, 2020 if you want to rent a machine.

Students interested in having a Dittoform body scan done should bring appropriate garments to wear during the scan.

Dittoform recommends that women wear just a bra (similar to what you wear most often) and underwear. If you normally wear shapewear under your custom-sewn garments, you may prefer to wear it for the scan. Non-shiny pantyhose or plain black leggings will work. Just know that the DittoForm will have the shape and size of what is exposed to the scanner.

For men, form-fitting boxer-briefs or briefs are recommended.

If you have long hair, please bring something to pull your hair up and off of your neck for your scan.

Students interested in consulting with the instructor on the fit of their underpants muslins should bring a base layer for trying on their muslins. Private changing space will be available.

Men’s Underwear – Pin Up Girls Mens Underwear Pattern

If you wish to order a Pin Up Girls pattern from your instructor, please let us know at the time of registration.

Fabric and Elastic recommendations:

Note: Please pre-wash and dry all fabrics. Once is ok. Twice is better, as cotton and cotton blends tend to shrink. There is no need to prewash elastics or stretch lace.

1 yard of knit fabric with at least 50% stretch in the crosswise grain such as cotton/spandex, nylon/spandex or polyester/spandex blends. Depending on the size and style, it is possible to get 2 or 3 pairs of underwear out of one yard of fabric, but we want to have plenty of room for error.

For women’s patterns:

A small piece of 100% cotton jersey for the gusset lining approx. 8 inches x 8 inches. This can be from a clean t-shirt that you are willing to destroy.

3 yards of half-inch plush-back elastic for the waist (this should be enough for two pairs)

3 yards of three-eighths-inch plush-back elastic for the legs (this should be enough for two pairs)

Optional: at least 1.5 yards of stretch lace

For men’s patterns:

1.5 yard of 1.5″- 2″ (37-52 mm) plush wide elastic for the waistband. We will have some of the 1.5-inch wide available to purchase at the event.

Thread and Needle recommendations:

Good-quality 100% polyester thread.

If your machine will not work a zigzag stitch, you will need to use Eloflex thread from Coats and Clark.

New stretch needles in sizes 75/11 and 90/14.
