Omg I looooove my mesh-back undies! As usual, they look too big on my little model but fit well on me. I learned a bit making these - I think I finally found a compromise on strength/looks for the join between the back crotch edge finish and the mesh. Since the mesh is cut on the fold, that edge is already finished, so there has to be a join there. It’s too black/black/black to photograph well, but if you come to my class in April, I’ll tell you all about it. #sewing #sewingtutorial

Still cleaning #sewing machines this week. These two machines don’t get the most love, but my 328k was my first, and I put her through a lot of abuse before I knew what I was doing! Not everyone loves this 5-thread serger from Singer. It’s probably not the easiest to use and can be a little finicky, but I love having a coverstitch option!

Two essential #sewing tools I didn’t know I needed until last November’s @textilecentermn class with @kennethdking - a double tracing wheel and waxed (not chalk) tracing paper. This tracing paper isn’t as nice as the kind @susankhalje wrote about in her couture tool kit article in this month’s @threadsmagazine article, but it does the job when tracing seam allowances (or just tracing) patterns. I picked mine up at Goodwill for super-cheap.

Once you have the fit of your panties worked out, you may want to photocopy your pattern pieces (or copy them a few times by tracing.) multiple copies make it easier to play with the design and/or color block to use up every scrap of your favorite fabric. #sewing #sew #panties #panty if you use a photocopier, make sure to check the copy against the original. Some copiers shrink things by 3% or so and it’s hard to notice if you’re not checking for it.
